    This is so much overkill, you dont need to change them over plug for plug with the old psu still hooked up. I’m a self taught pc builder, and i can tell you from experience that is not necessary at all…all plugs are pretty much proprietary, the plugs that go the hard drive and dvd drive, CAN ONLY go to the hard drive and dvd drives, fan cables and peripheral hookups have their own plugs also, they design it so you cant really f**k it up even if you have no idea what youre doing

    @tototuvieja It depends on the psu. If you’re using a Corsair 550W psu, then yes it’s plenty. If it’s a Rosewill, I wouldn’t chance that at all. The first thing you should look at with a power supply is how many amps are on the 12V rail. This is normally on the sticker placed on the side or top of the psu, and can sometimes be found on the box, but box stats can be misleading sometimes. Your best bet is to see how many watts are on the 12V rail, and divide by 12. It will be more accurate

    mate this helped me alot i am a pc dummy and even i worked it all out no worries,
    took me 1 hour to remove 430w psu and fit thermaltake evo blue 750w psu
    it was a simple task / i purchased a prebuilt gaming pc i7 930 ati 5850.and it only had 430w .i might crossfire it now..

    @Elitefrr

    the ram modules are in slots 1 & 3, on all the motherboards I’ve ever seen the slot numbers are staggered. so from left to right it should be slot 1, 3, 2, 4. not having the ram in the correct sequence can cause issues, also the ram wont be in dual channel mode.

    @tototuvieja I would recommend a 600w power supple just because the 250 takes up kinda alot of power.

    So how do you like the Rosewill? I’m thinking of getting one of the green series ones for my old AMD Athlon XP box. Don’t really want to spend too much on a supply for a 4 year old computer, but I also don’t want it to fry. I suppose I could spend 10 bucks more and get an OCZ or something. Actually though, I didn’t realize until recently, but this computer had a cheap and underpowered supply from when I bought it from HP. So almost anything will be an improvement.
