Stroke is the number one cause of adult disability in the world’s wealthiest countries and the third leading cause of death after heart attack and cancer.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that simple lifestyle changes can dramatically reduce your risk. Read on to discover the 7 top risk factors for stroke and what you can do to prevent them.

But first, what is a stroke and what are the warning signs?

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted and brain tissue is deprived of oxygen and nutrients. Most strokes are ischaemic strokes caused by blood clots blocking an artery to the brain.

About one out of five are caused by a haemorrhage in a blood vessel to the brain. This is a haemorrhagic stroke. It can occur when an artery ruptures causing bleeding into the brain.

A stroke can also happen when a clot from elsewhere in the body becomes dislodged and blocks an artery in the brain {embolic stroke}.

The common symptoms are:

Numbness, weakness or paralysis of the face, arm or leg on one or both sides of the body.
Loss of vision in one or both eyes.
Speech difficulty.
Vertigo, loss of balance.
Sudden, severe headache.
Confusion and memory problems.
Difficulty swallowing.
Seizures or blackouts.

RISK FACTOR NUMBER 1.

High blood pressure or hypertension.
Defined by the US National Institutes of Health as a blood pressure reading of 140/90 or higher.
Factors such as a high fat diet, stress and being overweight can narrow arteries. The resulting pressurized blood flow damages artery walls, making the formation of fatty plaque more likely. Plaque can break off and cause blood clots to form according to studies at the Stroke Prevention and Atherosclerosis Research Centre at Robarts Research Institute London, Ontario, Canada.

Normalizing blood pressure cuts the risk of stroke in half. No other preventative measure is as effective. The Mediterranean diet can lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke by up to 60%.This diet calls for five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day. It also emphasizes the importance of whole grains, beans, fish and poultry. It suggests replacing butter and cream with olive oil or oils rich in alpha-linolenic acid.

RISK FACTOR NUMBER 2.

Smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke.
Cigarette smoke is a bigger risk factor than previously thought. Research conducted at the University of Auckland New Zealand divided people into three groups: smokers, non smokers exposed to secondhand smoke and non smokers not exposed to secondhand smoke.

Researchers discovered that smokers had six times the stroke risk of non smokers and non smokers exposed to secondhand smoke had almost double the risk of other non smokers.

The obvious prevention is to quit smoking. Some success has been achieved with nicotine patches, anti smoking medication and hypnosis.

RISK FACTOR NUMBER 3.

Sticky blood or platelet aggregation.
In this process, microscopic components of blood stick together, leading to clot formation. To prevent this, talk to your doctor about taking a low dose aspirin daily. Aspirin inhibits platelet aggregation and can reduce the risk of stroke by up to 30% in some people. Vitamin E can improve blood flow and prevent blood clots. It is possibly the most important vitamin for promoting normal blood circulation, healthy arteries and heart.

RISK FACTOR NUMBER 4.

High cholesterol level.
High total and/or high LDL ["bad"] cholesterol levels contribute to the narrowing of arteries.
Prevention: Have a blood test. If your total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol are high, ask your doctor to discuss options with you. A number of natural options are available. These include a high fiber diet. Psillium husks and ground flaxseed are particularly high in fiber. Garlic can lower cholesterol levels as well as clean the arteries of accumulated fats.

RISK FACTOR NUMBER 5.

Ministrokes.
Before a person has a stroke, he/she might have one or more “ministrokes”, or transient ischaemic attacks [TIAs}. The symptoms are the same as a stroke.

Though TIA symptoms go away, those who have had a TIA have about a 30% risk of having a stroke within the next two months.

Prevention: If you think you have had a TIA, see your doctor without delay. It is possible that you

The New York (NY) Islanders is one of the two ice hockey teams from New York. The NY Islanders were formed to block the upstart New York Raiders of the World Hockey Association (WHA), and the WHA itself from placing its team at the newly constructed Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Nassau County. Officials of the Nassau County wanted nothing to do with WHA, which they did not consider to be a professional league. They sought the help of William Shea, who had brought the New York Mets to the area. Shea, with the help of the then NHL president – Clarence Campbell – had a franchise awarded to Roy Boe, a clothing manufacturer and owner of American Basketball Association’s New York Nets, to form another team in the NHL league.

Expecting to be named the Long Island Ducks, the team was surprisingly named the New York Islanders. Playing in the Atlantic Division of the NHL, the NY Islanders are based at Uniondale, New York.

Starting their life in the league in 1972, they won their first Stanley Cup, the Championship Trophy of the NHL, in the 1979-80 season, and followed this up with three more trophies, consecutively in the 1980-81, 1981-82, 1982-83 seasons. The NY Islanders also won three consecutive Prince of Wales Trophies for the 1982, 1983, and 1984 seasons. The Prince of Wales Trophy is awarded to the Eastern Conference (formerly the Wales Conference) playoff champions.

1974 To 1979 – The Years Of Accendancy

The first few years were the time to build up the team. In 1975, there occurred one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of NHL. Having earned their first berth in the playoffs, the NY Islanders beat their fiercest rivals, the New York Rangers, in the very first round in the best of three games, when they scored the winning goal in the 11 seconds into the extra session.

They followed this stunning performance with another more stunning performance in the second round. Down three games in the best of seven games series to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NY Islanders came back with another inspired performance to win the next four games, and the round. The only time when such a feat was performed by any North American professional sports team was by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1941-42, and by the Boston Red Sox – nearly 30 years later in 2004.

They nearly repeated the stunning display in the third round, coming from 3-nil down to equalize in six games, and then losing the seventh deciding game to the eventual Stanley Sup winners, the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Tickets

If you wish to procure your NY Islanders tickets for the home and away games, you will need to book well in advance. Whether you are looking for NY Islanders tickets for the season or post season games, they are not easy to come by.

You can certainly purchase your NY Islanders tickets from licensed ticket brokers in New York, who will attend to all your ticketing problems professionally and competently. Give them a call for your NY Islanders tickets, and rest easy.

The city of New York has nine teams representing the four major sports – baseball, basketball, football, and ice hockey. Two teams represent New York in ice hockey – the New York (NY) Rangers, and the New York Islanders. The NY Rangers are based at the Madison Square Garden, whereas the New York Islanders play from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale – New York. The NY Rangers is the older of the two teams and started playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1926.

The NY Rangers came into being as part of a franchise granted the Madison Square Garden by the NHL during the 1926-27 season. As the then president of the Madison Square Garden – G. L. ‘Tex’ Rickard – was responsible for building this team; the team came to be known as ‘Tex’s’ Rangers. This is how the team later came to be named the New York Rangers.

The NY Rangers have won four Stanley Cups – the championship trophy of the NHL. The NY Rangers did what no other team has ever done since – win their first Stanley Cup in their sophomore year. They won this during the 1927-28 season and followed it thrice more during the 1932-33, 1939-40, and 1993-94 seasons. They won this last Cup in front of their cheering home crowd at the Madison Square Garden.

The New Yorkers are proud of their team, which has won the Prince of Wales Trophy three times. The Prince of Wales Trophy is the NHL trophy awarded to the Eastern Conference playoff champions. The NY Rangers have also won the President’s Trophy twice. This is presented by the NHL to the team that finishes with the best record in the league during the regular season.

The Home Ground

The Madison Square Garden is home of the NY Rangers since 1926. That was the third Madison Square Garden, and since 1968, they have moved into the fourth Madison Square Garden. The Garden has 18,20 seats for hockey, and is unquestionably the most beautiful arena in the world.

The NY Rangers honors its greatest players by retiring their jersey numbers, never to be worn by any other Rangers team member. So far, the Rangers have retired four jersey numbers, and these numbers will hang – forever – from the rafters of the Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers Tickets

More than 25 home games are scheduled to be played by the NY Rangers until the first week of April 2007 at the Madison Square Garden. This is a great opportunity for the fans of the Rangers to watch their favorite team playing close up. With the games being played close to home, the NY Rangers tickets are definitely not going to be easy to come by.

With all the fans hankering to watch the games, the NY Rangers tickets would all have been sold out. It may already be too late in the day to expect to procure your NY Rangers tickets at the venue.

Your best option is the reputed ticket brokers, who have the resources to deliver your NY Rangers tickets to your door.

In the state of Indiana there is pretty much only one main city to speak of and that is the capital of Indianapolis. Although the smaller cities and towns in Indiana also offer excellent accommodations and activities for the traveler. However, Indianapolis is the largest tourist destination because of their variety of choices in attractions.

Everything from the Indiana State Museum to the Indianapolis 500 can be found within the city limits of Indianapolis. Although the Lincoln Museum is an excellent stop for history buffs and is found in Fort Wayne. This museum covers the life of Abraham Lincoln and how he contributed to society. South Bend has the Northern Indiana Center for History and Evansville is a historic riverfront town with the Willard Library that is listed as a historic place and has been reported to be haunted.

Perhaps the biggest attraction of Indianapolis is the largest single day sporting event in the world at the Indianapolis 500. However, there is more to the town than just auto racing. There are a variety of attractions and other sporting events that you can do year round in the city. In addition, the city offers excellent dinning and a unique shopping experience. There is the Indianapolis Zoo, the IMAX theater, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the White River Gardens, the Indiana State Museum, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial and the Eiteljorg Musuem which showcases a wide collection of American Indian and Western Art so that no matter what your interests you are sure to find something that interests you in Indianapolis.

However, by far the biggest draw is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which was originally built in 1909 and can see four hundred thousand individuals with a two and half mile track on 559 acres of land. Three major races a year a held at this location: the Indianapolis 500, the United States Grand Prix, and the Allstate 400. Viewing a race here with cars zooming by at two hundred miles per hour is an experience that individuals won’t soon forget after leaving and its not just for the sports buffs, anyone will enjoy these car races.

Through the state, Indiana has a variety of chain hotels and motels to choose from at an affordable price for any traveler. In 2006 a new contemporary hotel opened called the Conrad Indianapolis on Washington Street which is twenty-three stories and has 241 rooms with a spa, two restaurants and a fitness center. For a historic experience there is the French Lick Resort Casino in the town of French Lick on State Road 56 which is currently undergoing renovations. It features a 1920 golf course and will soon have a casino, pool, fitness center and several eateries and watering holes on site for guests.

Storytelling is the most underutilized tool in marketing. Yet storytelling not only makes it easy for people to get to know, like and trust you…it also increases sales!

Think back to a speaker you heard at a seminar. What do you remember about the talk? The theory? The principles? I doubt it. The bullet points? Maybe. But I’m willing to go out on a limb and say you DID remember the stories the speakers told.

…That’s because good storytelling creates images in our minds that last for years…even decades.

I remember hearing John Robins, author of “Diet for a New America”, speak at a heath fair in Central Oregon. We were in a large park surrounded by a forest. The sun reflected off a huge white tent crammed with over 2000 people listening to his every word. People sat up breathlessly – straining to see John way up there.

I was amazed…all these people and nobody moved…and all he did was told stories. He was riveting.

…and droves bought his book and supported his organization. It was brilliant salesmanship and storytelling at its best.

I’ve worked with dozens of coaches one-on-one to help craft their “Core Story” – the story you leverage in your marketing materials to build credibility and build trust. Here are the three essential elements that make up stories that persuade, captivate and sell:

1. Use the P.A.R. Formula

Don’t try to be clever in your storytelling – stick to this proven template for best results. P.A.R. stands for Problem, Action, Results. First, state the problem you faced. What wasn’t working and how did that feel? Second, tell what action you took. What was the epiphany that changed your life? What was your “ah-ha” moment? Finally, what was the result of the action you took? Be specific using numbers and real world results. Tell how you felt now that things are so different from when you had the problem.

2. Paint a Picture

The best storytelling causes the listener to see pictures in their mind’s eye. It’s those pictures that burn in our memory and make us remember a story years afterwards. Here’s how it works…

Pick a very specific moment in time that represents the pivotal moment of your story. Scrap everything else leading up to that point – just cut to the chase. Now…as you tell the story create the picture in YOUR mind’s eye and pick just a couple details to tell us about. Maybe it was the tightness of your breath, the blue paint chipping off the door you opened, the squishy sound under your shoes…just enough to paint the picture. Don’t over do it! Let the listener complete the picture in THEIR minds. That’s your goal.

3. Have Your Story Teach a Principle

This is the big marketing secret few use…tell a story that also teaches a core idea behind your service, product or program. Nobody likes to be lectured to…so don’t. But we all love good storytelling.

For example, I often share the story on how I made ,000 in one week using a 25 page Special Report at a networking event. The story is interesting AND educational because I share step by step how to use direct response marketing. (i.e. moving a stranger to a friend, a friend to client and a client to a champion.)

Still don’t believe me on the power of storytelling? Let me ask you something…I just shared good information for you. But what do you remember most? Okay…maybe it was the last bullet point…but tomorrow morning when you think of this article again, I’m willing to bet you’ll remember the brief story I told about listening to John Robins talk in the park. That’s because you probably saw a picture in your mind when I painted the picture: “…large park surrounded by a forest”, “The sun reflected off a huge white tent”, “…people sat up breathlessly”.

Even though I was there and you weren’t – you still participated in the telling of the event. You saw your own picture…and you’re more likely to remember the principle behind the story: storytelling sells!

It’s as if we both shared a moment in

Wrestling with your conscience.

“Stop, stand, still, foot on the ball, eyes on me. Right, all move around the square, big toe, little toe, keep control of the ball. Let’s go.” As I barked out these instructions at the top of my voice, my eyes were quickly scanning the group of boys and girls in front of me. The youngest was 4, the oldest 8, the vast majority 6 or 7 years of age. 25 young souls taking part in the delights that are a Soccer Camp. For 3 days they attend, for 6 hours at a time. At the end of the third day, it is hoped that they will have gained some new skills, acquired some tricks, had bags of fun and got value for their parents hard-earned money. The reality however is quite different. For working on ball control, drag-backs and shooting accuracy takes second place to splitting up fights, settling disputes and comforting the upset and unhappy. Taking control and responsibility for two dozen children is a draining experience in many respects.

The first day is exciting, getting to know them as quickly as possible. The second day is tougher as the naughty and mischevious start to show their true colours. By the third day, you’ve had enough of sly Ben, can’t wait for demanding Derek to go home, and as for angel-faced Jay, well, he’s fooling nobody. Yet it isn’t all doom and gloom for there are many special moments along the way. Some children, even in such a short space of time, endear themselves to you. Little Pat, with the face of a scamp and a heart of gold, lovely Helen, 6 years old and a professional footballer in every sense, and Elliot, a natural who doesn’t give you a minutes trouble. 25 of him and you could get the cigar’s out. But the overiding memory of the 3 day camp has to be the excitement created by an activity far removed from the beautiful game.

Getting 25 children to listen is a very difficult job at the very best of times. But throw in the names Batista, Rey Mysterio or The Undertaker and you have their undivided attention. The phenomenom that is the WWE, (World Wrestling Entertainment) has crossed the Atlantic and is creating quite a stir in Britain. All dates are immediate sell outs and the revenue generated run into hundreds of millions of dollars. And as a parent, the influence of these wrestling megastars is disturbing me greatly. My own son is a massive fan and we went to the Manchester Evening News Arena to see the show for ourselves. At £62 per ticket it was an expensive evening. But the traumatised look on his face as “The Boogeyman”, a man who eats live worms in the ring and leaves them like a calling card on his opponents body, will always stay with me. As I held him close, attempting to reassure him that it was all make believe, I couldn’t help feeling stupid as I had paid over £120 to see my son sob uncontrollably. The rest of the show was as entertaining as it was unsound. Female wrestlers are called Diva’s and are the ultimate sex object. Wet t-shirts, mud wrestling and bikini matches are the norm and at times it resemble soft porn.

Vendettas are common place but are settled in the most unsatisfactory manner possible. For there is no honour in the WWE.Assaults from behind, weapons, 3 v1, and handicap matches are all mainstays of the programme. If the remit is disturbing people, then they are doing a brilliant job. But the messages, obvious or subtle, go against the grain of basic decency. Cryme Time are a black team of wrestlers who steal and are always in trouble with the law, Eugene is a wrestler with mental illness who is always mocked and ridiculed, whilst John Cena, a clean cut, clean living former US Marine, is the ultimate peoples champion. Sexual innuendo, bullying, racism, its all there in spades. And the kids love it. But what harm is it doing? Are we poisoning the minds of our youth in the name of entertainment?.

We all know its staged, but watching somebody being reduced to a bloody mess is disturbing, whatever your age. And the way it is done, often from behind or with the element of surprise, gives the message that this is the way to settle disputes. What happened to reason? Diplomacy? Respect? I teach my children to stand up for themselves and to protect their own human rights. But if my son attacks somebody in the school playground, jumps on a girls back and pulls her hair until she screams, or beats somebody until he

Ah music! As what Homer stated, manly music recharges the wavering soul of a man and prompts him to do unimaginable feats. Of course, he was referring to a mighty warrior of eons past and the music in question was obviously the beating of war drums and the shrieking battle cries. But nevertheless, Homer made an important point here; music, as always, stirs the emotions inside.

But then, you cannot bring in battle drums and trumpets with you if you plan to take on the whole world now, can you? Kidding aside, music is inseparable to everyone’s way of living. Tradition or cultivation, we enjoyed it so much that technology made music mobile. The Apple iPod, along with its Ipod Accessories and Ipod Accessories, and music phones like Motorola, complemented by Motorola Cell Phone Accessories, allows us to enjoy music whenever we want to, anywhere we want to.

But let us leave the devices to the techno people and focus more on music and it moving power. To start off, we define music. But what is the real definition of music? There are quite a number of definitions chipped in by musicians, lexicographers, philosophers, etymologists, and a lot of experts related to word construction and musicology. But perhaps we can all agree if we label music as a series of organized sound patterns designed to entertain specific types of audiences (I made that up). Every culture has its own restrictions and borders as well as roaming ground on how to make music. But music is also an art. As a separate form of aesthetics, making music is as much as breaking the rules than adhering to them. But if it works, it works well indeed.

I was seven years old the first time I encountered the kind of music described by Homer (the one that lifts up your spirit when you are down) when I watched Rocky starring Sylvester Stallone. There were these scenes when Rocky was working out for his upcoming title fight with Apollo Creed. While training hard, the theme Gonna Fly Now was nicely blending in from the background. It was moving song and it complements those scenes. As a kid, I kept playing the song from memory, humming the parts I remember whilst releasing a barrage of straights, crosses, and uppercuts at an unseen enemy. And I was not alone. Gonna Fly Now became a part of American pop culture along with Rocky Balboa as both song and character were embedded into minds of Americans; that with hard work and sheer determination, everything is within reach.

That said, music also pushes the individual to do feats of grotesque in nature. A good example of which is Frank Sinatra’s My Way. In the Philippines, the singing of the said song in karaoke bars is considered taboo because of the bizarre twists that befalls the singer after singing the song. For some stupid reasons (forgive the language), a certain listener will, to say the least, start an argument after the song has been sung. That leads to injury, or worst, death of either the singer or listener along with their respective drinking buddies and some innocent patrons. Such was the popularity of My Way’s peculiar incidents that it was almost unofficially banned from karaoke bars in the Philippines.

Psychologically, music has a direct effect on its listeners, though the manifestations of these effects vary differently. As to how music moves people, the answers are in multitudes. Whether they are satisfying or not is totally up to the person seeking the answer. Personally, how music moves people will remain a mystery as no branch of science and philosophy will produce a sufficient answer.

Music has its way with people. I, for one, have been moved too many times more than I can remember. I pursued a girl way back in college because I heard Adam Sandler singing I Wanna Grow Old With You on the radio. I cried to Kenny Loggin’s For the First Time. I was elated and sang ¬We Are the Champions by Queen when we defeated a rival school on a

The summer Olympics are just weeks away so I decided to write an article about two amazing women, Amanda Beard and Dara Torres. Both will be competing this year at the 2008 Games. Not only are both amazing athletes, but they are also motivational speakers. I have put together three of my favourite quotes from Amanda Beard and Dara Torres to show the admiration of these two Olympic stars and celebrate the upcoming 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Dara Torres
Dara Torres is the first American swimmer to compete at four Olympic Games and has racked up a total of nine Olympic medals – 4 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze. Dara successfully competed at the 1984, 88, 92 and again at the 2000 Olympic Games. She is now breaking her own record with her 5th Olympic Games in Beijing this summer.

“They may become harder to achieve, but your dreams can’t stop because you’ve hit a certain age or you’ve had a child.”

“The water doesn’t know what age you are when you jump in, so why not?” (commenting on entering her fifth Olympics at age 41)

“When I first started, people said I was an inspiration, but I think it’s been a complete 180 turn. I have so many people coming up to me now and telling me about their stories and what’s changed in their lives, and I feel like I’m getting inspiration from other people.”

Amanda Beard
Amanda is a 7-Time Olympic Medalist, a model with numerous magazine covers, and a national spokesperson for various companies. Amanda Beard became the second-youngest gold medalist in USA Swimming history (only Pokey Watson was younger than Amanda in 1964 winning the 400m free relay gold at 14 years and 96 days old) by winning her first Olympic gold, swimming on the medley relay. She is also a five-time U.S. national champion and has set an American record in the 200m breaststroke during a World Cup in 2002. Amanda Beard will be entering her 4th Olympic Games this summer in Beijing.

“When I look back on it, it’s fuzzy – like a dream. I can’t really remember everything; it’s just like a childhood memory to me. I didn’t know too much about what was going on, I just kind of swam. Sure, there was publicity going on about me being so young, and it’s really weird to be 14 and have all that stuff happening to you, but then again, you’re so young and childish you sort of blow it off.” (on her 1996 Olympic experience)

“I concentrate on preparing to swim my race and let the other swimmers think about me, not me about them.”

“I hope that looking back at my career and as other people look back at my career I hope that I’ve opened a lot of doors and opportunities for other people. I know a lot of people get on my case a lot because I’ve done a lot of things outside of the pool I’m trying to open doors I’m trying to create more interest in swimming and bring more sponsors into the sport so swimmers that are coming up behind me can have a career in it.”

I’ll be supporting both swimmers back here at home and wishing them luck this summer at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

There has never been a marriage more inspired than the one which joined the game of golf with the terrain of southwestern Ireland. Nowhere is this inspiration more in evidence than in a small County Kerry town located at the juncture of the Shannon River and the Atlantic Ocean, where next to golf, seaweed baths are the greatest attraction. Those seaweed baths, however, are a poor second in need.

Â

Watching over this town from high above, where it has stood as a sentinel since the 13th century, and played a significant role in the Norman conquest of Ireland, are the ruins of a castle. The image of that castle’s wall has gained new fame as a symbol of the town’s top attraction, its Golflinks.

Â

The town, of course, is Ballybunion, and for a very long time it is golf links were one of golf’s overlooked treasures. They might still be a secret, were it not for a visit by America’s champion golfer Tom Watson, who in the early 1980s declared the course at Ballybunion’s golf club to be one from which many golf architects could learn much about the art of golf course design.

Â

The Ballybunion Golf Club has now become a favorite practice course for the elite golfers who gather from around the world each July in compete in the British Open. The names of Nicklaus, Faldo, and Woods are just three which have joined Tom Watson’s in the club register, which dates back to 1893.

Â

The original Ballybunion Golf Club, however, faced an early demise, and was nearly a total financial failure until in 1901 its board of officers was changed. The Ballybunion links continued to develop as did The Golf Club’s reputation, and by 1927, it was a full 18- hole course. Six years later, it drewl attention as the site of the Irish ladies golf championship, and in another five years Ballybunion Golf Club hosted The Irish Men’s Close Amateur Championship.

Â

Ballybunion Golf Club, however, did not achieve the recognition it deserve until 1957, when the Irish Professional Championship was played there. In the more than five decades since, Ballybunion has hosted hundreds of other major competitions, and received consistently high marks from players at every level. The Old Course at Ballybunion tests the pages of skills of every golfer with the Atlantic-driven winds, while simultaneously rewarding them with spectacular ocean views.

Â

The 7th and 11th holes at Ballybunion, at more than 400 yards each, offer everything that is good about the game of golf. The course between them winds along the sea and among the dunes, allowing the players to soak in the sense of salty air, watch the sea grass bending in the breeze, and to feel the sand yielding beneath their feet. The 9th hole at Ballybunion Old Course has a green which resulted from bisecting a sand dune, while the 17th hole requires the golfer to send his or her drive directly toward the sea.

Â

The amenities at Ballybunion Golf Club do justice to its remarkable courses. The newly completed modern clubhouse has a premier dining room, two bars, and several welcoming relaxation lounges. Its Pro Golf Shop can meet every conceivable golfing need, and for golfers waiting for tee time to arrive, Ballybunion Golf Club offers practice putting and chipping greens, a driving range, and even a practice sand bunker.

Â

A golfing vacation which includes a visit to County Kerry’s Ballybunion Golf Club will reward you with a naturally challenging course in an historic setting that will leave you with memories which last a lifetime.

Liturgy of Peace (De Angelis) -Chants from the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, were first sung by Archbishop Ionafan in the melodious style of ancient Gregorian surroundings. Gregorian singing (choral) and its ancient melodies were sung without the inclusion of musical instruments, song. Melodious sources and origins of Gregorian chorals derive from synagogical (antiphonal) psalm melodies, Byzantine hymns and ancient world music.

Several types of Chorale Church Music exist. Specific notice is deserved to the ancient-Roman songs of the VII-VIII centuries. Information from the Lorana Institute and Greek research into choral traditions of L. Anhelopulocs show a united modal, rhythmic and ornamental basis. These actual chants were placed into the foundation of Gregorian chorals until the VIII-IX centuries until the systematic Gregorian eight-toned foundational singing arose. In the East this process ceased a century earlier (Eight Tones of St. John Damascene), in time the Gregorian chorale became the basis of all European professional music and its rightful name should be “The Musical Teacher of Europe”.

In the “Liturgy of Peace” the Greek Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in the Church-Slavonic language is “dressed “by the author in the melodies of ancient Gregorian chorals with minimal adaptation of harmonious methods. That way, and through the one thousand year old alienation of Church culture the “Liturgy of Peace” creates a musical synthesis of both cultures: firstly, and again the meeting of western and eastern liturgical traditions. After more than three centuries of domination of eastern Slavonic Divine Liturgies in its concert style of music, the “Liturgy of Peace” is received and accepted as something un-expected. Its uplifting “awakening -angelic” and lulling intonations carry peace and harmony, giving birth to passion, as though uniting us with the Kingdom of Heaven. That is why it is no coincidence that it is titled: “Litany of Peace”, “Angelic”. “Liturgy of Peace” is the spiritual fruit of many years of reflection and the seekings of Archbishop Ionafan as to the way to Universal Peace, which is so necessary today in our uncertain lives.

The author dedicates the “Liturgy of Peace” to the eternal memory of his spiritual guardian Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov) the eminent religious champion and upholder of Christian unity and Peace.

Archbishop Ionafan (Anatolij Ivanovych Yeletskyh) was born in Russia on the 30th January 1949 in the Voronezkij oblast (now Bilhorodska). In 1976 he graduated from the Leningrad Theological Academy (now St. Petersburg) attaining the learned level of Candidate of Theological Learning. Simultaneously, he studied choral directorship at the Theological Academy under the tutorage and in the classes of N.D.Uspenskij, a famous music expert and doctor of Theology and liturgical historian. For ten years Archbishop Ionafan lectured at the Theological Academy and within the department of Choral Directorship where he directed the student choir in the seminary church. In 1986 and prior to 1,000 years of Christianity of Kyivan Rus, and under the directorship of the then Hieromonk Ionafan (Yeletskyh) the student choir of the Leningrad In 1988 Archbishop Ionafan – the then Vicar of the Kyiv Pechersk monastery of the Caves in its God-serving rites revived the traditions of monastic singing.

The musical activity of Archbishop lonafan supplements the multifarious foundational recovery, restoration and deciphering of ancient-Ukrainian church melodies of the XVI century, the epoch of its ancient methods being the priceless spiritual inheritance of a great Slavonic culture. The Lyturgy was first performed and recorded by Kyiv Chamber Choir
