A personalized mug, using a custom design, is a perfect way to preserve those special memories of a beloved pet. Most pet owners delight in taking pictures of their pets and those pictures can be the key to making a low cost personalized memory mug that will remind them of the ‘good times’.

It is amazing what the new technologies (digital images, digital image editing software, and dye sublimation printing) allow us to do. With these new technologies we can adjust the image for light, contrast, and even color to potentially rescue a less than perfect image. We can then crop the image to emphasize the desired content or otherwise manipulate it to fit in a pleasing design.

With the superb print quality provided by dye sublimation printing we can get a clear, vivid color image that is easily viewed in a very small format. This allows us to utilize a large number of photos on a small palette such as a mug.

Here is an example using 13 photos to commemorate a span of 8 years in a pony’s life.

In this example the pony was very versatile and it required a number of photos to capture that versatility. In this case Ashes was a companion (pet), a teacher for both riding and driving, loved maneuvering through hazards of all kinds, and was a champion at competitive distance driving. It would have taken several individual mugs to tell his story, or we can simply use a collage to combine those activities into a single, much more memorable, mug as we did in this example. Adding a few words helps recall the time period represented as well as his accomplishments.

We may also have a pet with a significant characteristic that we want to memorialize.

As an example my daughter’s dog, Scruffy, learned to sit up for extended periods of time and used this technique to get our attention. We concluded that a cup featuring an image showing that characteristic would be appropriate. The problem was that we didn’t have a ‘clean’ image showing him sitting up and begging.
