Ddr2 Memory: Your Reason To Upgrade

We all seek swifter and more efficient performance from our computers, investing in a variety of peripherals to assist in achieving greater heights of performance. Many PCs come with the latest in computer technology with speedy CPUs and large RAM. Since 2004, DDR2 Memory or Double Data Rate 2, has replaced DDR1 as the new generation in DDR technology.

DDR2 – What does it do?

Physically, DDR2 is different from DDR1. It cannot be used on PCs that do not come with DDR2 technology, as there are different numbers of pins: 240 pins in DDR2 as opposed to 180 in DDR1. In fact, in terms of speed, the DDR2 starts at 400mHz at the lowest level, which is the highest on DDR1. Therefore, upgrading to DDR2 will give you better performance on your computer. It can now function at faster speeds and adjust to higher data bandwidths, which makes for more rapid Internet browsing. This RAM also consumes less power, saving you valuable dollars on your energy bill if you’re a high computer user. With a thermal performance that’s enhanced, your PC will remain cool for a longer period of time compared with DDR1.

Points to note when buying DDR2

Be aware of certain factors when make your upgrade decision:

* Right RAM for your motherboard. Study your PC manufacturer’s guidelines on the recommended RAM for your particular machine before purchasing the DDR. Your new DDR must be an exact fit for your motherboard otherwise it will be money down the drain. The wrong DDR would cease vital functions of RAM and slow down your computer system.

* Increase both the RAM and speed. If you want a faster, more efficient computer, you have to upgrade both the RAM and the speed. There’s a specific speed for each computer. So get bigger DDR2 Memory!

* Don’t install memory yourself. You might find that your computer warranty becomes null and void if you do. Take your new memory chip to the Sales and Service Centre of a reputable PC manufacturer or a reliable computer accessories shop, and have the technicians there upgrade your machine.

Advantageous of DDR2

You will enjoy tremendous benefits from DDR2:

* Faster programs. Your computer applications will run at a faster rate, enabling you to complete your work in half the time. You can even effortlessly play high quality 3D computer games that rely on plenty of precise graphics and a fast PC for a stimulating experience.

* Enhanced program download. You won’t have to wait ages for your programs to download and you can switch easily between programs. You can also run more programs at once

* Increased computer speed. Your PC will be more efficient as it runs at a faster level.

Upgrading your PC to DDR2 Memory doesn’t have to be a convoluted matter. You could purchase the required component and proceed to any computer store to have it installed in your machine. Alternatively, you could take your laptop directly to the store, discuss your requirements with the technicians and follow their suggestions for trouble free computer usage.

I don’t know a lot about RAM, but 800mHz PC6400 is waaay faster than my old 133mHz PC-133 ram. Apparently cutting edge RAM actually gets hot these days, so they have to include their own heatsinks on top. I’d never seen that before.

BACKSTORY: So, as mentioned before (in a 10-part series of blog posts), my trusty computer of 9 years, "Storm", died a nasty death. My secondary/kitchen computer "Hell" stepped up to bat and took Storm’s place, but I still needed a new computer for our somewhat newly-built upstairs space. So I built Hades, during which I wrote another 5 blog posts. These are the pictures I took while building it.
